Good news is Microsoft fixed the bug in Server 2012.īottom line was the customer doubled the number of servers being streamed by PVS and upgraded to IE11 and the new users had large mailboxes and extremely large Excel files. The hotfix is only available by opening a Microsoft support ticket.

Surely this major bug was fixed in a product update or service pack for Server 2008 or Server 2008 R2? Not it was not.

If this has been a known issue for so long, surely the hotfix is readily available? No it is not. This has been a known issue since Server 2008. Microsoft sent a hotfix that the support representative said should be installed on every 2008 R2 server whether they experience this issue or not. Both Citrix and Microsoft were involved in the troubleshooting and reading of dumps.

Turns out there is a known issue on Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2 with the NTFS IO system not being able to handle the stress of large amounts of file IO.

To make a very long story short, it was NOT: After reverting users to other servers for the Office applications, troubleshooting the root cause began.
#CITRIX XENAPP 6.5 RUNNING INTERNET EXPLORER 11 UPGRADE#
The only thing that changed was an upgrade from IE10 to IE11. The customer’s previous PVS image used the exact same version of Microsoft Office and other core applications. The only recourse was to use the hypervisor to either Force Shutdown or Force Reset the server. What would happen is that is any user or users caused two Microsoft Office applications to run at the same time, the CPU would spike to between 80% to 100% and the server would become unresponsive. So i guess this is not the way to force iexplore to a clean shutdown. On a recent project, the customer experienced an issue where after updating the Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) image to Internet Explorer (IE) 11 caused a major outage. There is an issue if the main executable for the specified published application is not terminating correctly. Note: Do not place the executable name of the main published application in this key because this might result in failure to properly launch the published application. I know of the "LogoffCheckSysModules" reg tweak, but in CTX134956 it clearly says: Yesterday I thought i found a solution by running runonce.exe /alternateshellstartup one time, which creates a lot of ie reg keys that otherwise wouldn't be set when ie is run as a published app - but this was a dead end. I searched the interwebs and this forum and there seam to be a lot of occurences of this issue but not a real solution. I would rather have it shutdown clean when the user closes the ie gui. But when that happens, the next start of ie, the software would behave as if had an unclean exit the last time. Those processes are iexplore.exe and iexplore.exe*32.Įventually, the session will be logged off after the disconnect timeout i set to 60 minutes. If among the programs the user started was IE (no matter if x32 or 圆4), two IE processes will stay active with no visible windows opened. If any other seamless publishes app is oepened and then closed, the session will enter the linger state as configured.

I'm experiencing a strange behavior of Internet Explorer in practically every install of XA 6.5 on W2K8 R2 i maintain.
